Tasty Treat Tuesday- Banana carob cookies

Banana Carob Cookies

 

 

 

Ingredients:

 

2 cups mashed banana

1 tsp. vanilla

5 cups rolled oats

1/3 cup unsweetened apple sauce

 

 

Preheat oven to 350. 

 

Mix ingredients together in a large bowl.

 

Drop mix by the spoonful and flatten with a spoon.

 

Bake for 15 minutes.

 

 

 

Carob coating:

 

2 cups carob chips

2 Tbsp. coconut oil

 

Melt ingredients in double boiler and stir until smooth.  Dip cookies in or spoon mixture on top of cookies.

 

Refrigerate and enjoy!

 

 

 

 



 



Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Adapted from Brown Eyed Baker
 
INGREDIENTS

• 2 cups whole-wheat flour

• 1 tbsp baking powder

• 1 cup peanut butter

• 1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk. Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well.
Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness and cut out shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack and store in an airtight container.

Serve and enjoy!

I thought everyone could use some smiles today.   Is there anything better then a Pittie smile?  I don't think so!

Vet Street has an awesome list of 20 Ways To Save Money On Your Pets.


Mom says that when you are home school mom to 3 kids and you have pets saving money is important! Here are a few of the items on the list Mom does:

• Mom likes to enlist the kids to make some of our toys.  We like to use scrap pieces of fleece to create rope toys for the dogs.  We also grow our own catnip to put on cat scratchers and toys.  

• She does all the grooming at home.  Mom has a pair of inexpensive clippers for summer cuts.  She also bought a good pair of nail clippers.  All the baths are done in our bathtub.  

• We take all of our own pet photos.  Mom spends a lot of time photographing me because I am super cute!  It also helps to have a Grandma that is a pet photographer!

• When the family has to leave on vacation without us (hardly ever) we use a pet sitter at home or ask family and friends to help out.  This is a little tricky since we now have pets that require cricket feedings and special instructions.

• We also use inexpensive mobile clinics for wellness care.  Typically they offer inexpensive vaccines, routine tests for FIV or heartworm, flea preventative, heartworm preventative, and inexpensive microchipping.

• All of us fur babies are spayed and neutered.  It cuts down on future health problems and Mom said we won't get the urge to run away!

• Mom is also a couponer.  It's a good way to save a little cash on products you already buy.  When matched to sales, coupons can help you get a great deal on an already good price!

Galveston, Sweet Galveston

This blog post really should have been out about a month ago but Mom got busy with the 3 kids and another vacation.  Summer time seems to be never ending around here!

My Aunt has a fabulous beach house she lends us every year.  This was my first time visiting.  It was TONS of fun!  

Here we are the night we arrived. We drove 2 hours in a minivan with 5 people and stuff for everyone. Did I mention that the van was MINI??   Let us in already!  

It was already time for bed by the time we got there so all I could do was look at the water from the porch. 

Mom and Dad tried to make everything OK by bribing us with treats.  Yum!  I'll take a treat over a trip down to the beach any day! 

Finally we woke up and it was time to play!  Running in water is fun!

My sister Sasha has a serious problem.  She can fetch for days straight.  Mom and dad have to cut her off so she doesn't pass out.  She should really join a 12 step program.  Here favorite part of driving all the way to the beach is playing Frisbee when we get there.  Callie likes to play too but she doesn't have an issue.  

I thought it would be fun to chase Sasha and intercept the Frisbee.  I wanted to make sure that I blocked her from getting it and then I would leave it behind.  BEST GAME EVER!

While the kids were out playing every day...

 I was napping.  Did you know that the beach is a lot of work?

I got tired of just sitting around hunting crabs and rolling in dead things so I decided to try my hand out in art.  I wrote my name on the beach and I built a sand castle.  Pretty good for a puppy don't you think?

Did I mention we were also vacationing with my cousin Biscuit?  He spent the whole trip chasing fish in the water.  This may have been the only time he sat down!

I spent a lot of time hanging out with my people.  We were exhausted!  Did you know that Spongebob is on all the time and it's a great show?

Unfortunately our fun times had to end.  I took an early morning walk with dad.  It sure does look pretty in the mornings!

I wish I may, may wish I might have the wish I wish tonight....Please can I go back to the beach?

Vintage pit bull photos

Mom has always had a love for Pit Bulls.  She has never encountered one that was mean or aggressive.  Her love started when she was a teen working as a vet tech.  A Pit Bull puppy came in very ill.  She was with the vet for a week and was the sweetest dog Mom had ever met.  No matter how bad she felt and how many times she got poked and prodded she stayed loving and friendly and eager to please.  Sadly she died from her unknown illness but Mom has bee obsessed with the breed since then.  

Mom has been doing a lot of internet searching on the "nanny dog".  It's just amazing to her that so many years ago the dog was used as a nanny for children.  It was a loyal family member and people trusted them with their children.  

How did we go from being viewed as man's best friend to being viewed as killers?  Here are some of Mom's fave photos.  As you can see, we are not all bad dogs!
